Top Louisville officials express sincere condolences after plane crash in Perm, Russia.
Mayor Jerry E. Abramson expresses most sincere condolences to the families who experienced the loss of the loved ones in the Boeing 737 crash, Mayor Shubin and a number of other Perm officials, and all the citizens of Perm City,
"What a horrible, horrible tragedy! Our hearts and thoughts are with you and all our friends in Perm at this very sad time. Thank heavens the plane missed your residences and city ... but it is a terrible shock and loss for those with loved ones on board, and we can only imagine how frightening it was for all who witnessed it. Louisville is standing with Perm at this very difficult time.
It has been a sad week for Louisville as well. The tail end of Hurricane Ike that devastated Texas blew through Louisville on Sunday and the winds, which were sustained for over an hour at 75 - 80 miles per hour, caused much damage and 75% of our city is without power right now. Many homes were damaged and many roads closed by falling trees. While our worries are small compared to yours, both Perm and Louisville are going through challenging times".
